When service providers have to be accountable for their practices, clients can be more confident that the provider has their best interest in mind.
Things To Consider When Working With A DWI Agency
1. Does the agency display or can they make available their license by the state of North Carolina?
Every agency that provides DWI services including assessments, education, prevention and treatment, must be licensed by North Carolina.
2. Does the agency have confidentiality guidelines? What are they?
At no time should an agency share your information with anyone without your prior written consent. If the agency receives some sort of benefit by sharing your information with other companies, that is a violation of state agency regulations and should be reported to the NCDHHS immediately.
3. Does the provider work with reputable companies?
Because DWI assessments and treatment are only one component of satisfying your court requirements, there are times when your agency may refer you for another service, such as a DWI attorney, insurance company or extended treatment facility. Do your own research to make sure the companies they refer are reputable, keeping in mind that you have the right to choose your own provider.
4. What are other people saying about the provider?
Check the provider’s website. Are people commenting on the quality of their service? Check with the NCDHHS, does the provider have any complaints listed? Visit their Facebook page. Search Google for their business names. Make a note of anything that would suggest the agency may not be serving the best interest of their clients.
Getting past a DWI is serious. You should feel confident that you are choosing a provider that will treat you with respect as you deal with this very personal matter. You do have a choice. Choose wisely.
